“And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” Luke 8:48

Jesus is a man of many emotions. He can be loving and compassionate, weep for His people who are blinded to His truths or become harsh and cruel in His actions. 

The discipline of Jesus can be radical and traumatic to the Christian who is truly committed to Him. Jesus has plans to prepare the devoted believer for a powerful assignment in the kingdom of God.

The first example of the compassion of Jesus is about a woman with a flow of blood for twelve years and the failure of doctors to heal her. She was an outcast from her community because of the flow of blood.

She saw Jesus in a crowd and came up behind Him and touched His garment. Immediately the flow of blood stopped. Jesus asked who touched Him as He perceived power going out of His body. The woman came up to Jesus trembling and admitted she had touched Him and was healed immediately. Jesus responded “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

When Jesus does not seem like your best friend!

Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him to ask for some bread at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me.” Luke 11:5-7

The second example demonstrates the cruel and harsh side of Jesus. In this parable Jesus said suppose you have a friend living next door and you go to ask him for some bread to serve to a man who came a long way to visit with him. The neighbor says “Don’t bother me and closes his door.”

Jesus displayed many emotions in His ministry on earth. He was both loving and cruel or harsh depending on His purposes for a believer. 

Jesus sees all of the personality and inner nature in a believer. He knows a believer better than he knows himself. Jesus transforms a believer to become like Him. This can be painful and create distress, anguish and hardship in life. 

Jesus is perfect and His plan is perfect for your life!
